The Wadden Sea, an enormously flat area where the harbor floor is exposed twice a day and again flooded by the tide. The Wadden Sea is a huge natural area where you can experience incredible experiences all year round.
The Wadden Sea is part of the North Sea. The area stretches from Ho Bay near Esbjerg down to the Dutch town of Den Helder and is characteristic of special tidal conditions. The Wadden Sea was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2009. The Danish part of the Wadden Sea was added to the list in 2014. With its 1459 km2, the Wadden Sea is the largest national park in Denmark. Diatoms / plankton bind the carbon dioxide in the air and thus have an impact on the world's climate. The biological productivity of the Wadden Sea surpasses that of the rainforest. Plankton starts the food chain that follows worms, snails and mussels, crustaceans and fish. The Wadden Sea is a large pantry for 10-12 million. migratory birds and is a breeding area for birds and seals. Together with the cultural landscape in the marsh and the islands, the Wadden Sea forms a unique cultural and natural environment.
