Højer is a town in the southwestern corner of Denmark. The city is a Wadden Sea city with a special touch of art and artists.
Hills are next door to a system of dikes, locks and canals, which were built over several centuries to protect the hinterland from floods. The water level is regulated by two locks, the Gamle Sluse from 1861 and Vidåslusen from 1981. A unique cultural environment emerged with a saltwater lake to the south, which is home to many birds. Højer is an old marsh town with many houses worthy of preservation, which shows Tøndermarken's special building customs, and its Dutch windmill from 1857, one of the tallest in Northern Europe. The city is known for its craft traditions, among others. craftsman, but also the manufacture of slaughter products, especially sausages. Hikers can start their trip on the 54 km long marsh trail from here. Farm holidays, private accommodation and an aparthotel offer accommodation and an active holiday.
