Bredebro has been a station town since the uprising, since then Bredebro has given birth to Ecco shoes.
"Bredebro" originated as a town because there was a ford where you could cross the Brede Åen and in the Middle Ages drive the oxen south to the markets in Holstein. The 48 km. long Brede Å connects Løgumkloster, Bredebro and marsh and the Wadden Sea and forms the framework for a beautiful natural landscape with the opportunity for hiking, fishing and canoeing. In Bredebro you will find a traditional inn in full operation from 1872, a leisure center and open-air swimming pool with attached campsite. Bredebro's landmark is the shoe company Ecco, symbolized by a large foot in red Bornholm granite. The founder Karl Toosbuy started the world-famous shoe factory in 1963 in Bredebro. On the city's town square, which Ecco created in 2014, you will find the world's largest Ecco shoe store, Ecco`s museum, café and bakery, a Lego store and a well-equipped store for hunting and fishing.
