Ballum is possibly the city that has the most names, in fact up to 7 names, spread over a large area, with very few inhabitants.
Ballum is a community consisting of an association of 7 villages, which is located on Hjerpsted hill island on the border between marsh and geest. In Ballum you will find a number of houses and four-lane farms, which can be dated back to around the 17th century. The history of the individual villages is characterized by agriculture, storm surges, sailing to Rømø and the dike construction with Ballum Sluse and the sluice inn. Denmark's well-known shipping family Mærsk Møller has its roots in Ballum and helps to preserve the unique cultural environment. Another well-known person in the city is the poet Jens Rosendal with 11 songs in the folk high school songbook and hymns and poems about nature and people. Ballum's location by the Wadden Sea is attractive for holidaymakers, who will find restaurants, hotels and campsites, bathing places and opportunities for Wadden Sea walks.
