Rømø Church was originally built in the 13th century, but was greatly expanded in the 1600s to the 1700s as prosperity on the island grew.

The church is naturally inaugurated to the seamen's patron saint Sct. Clemens, and it houses several beautiful church vessels (model ships) donated by commanders, shipowners and sailors.

In the last century, the right to place its name on certain, vaunted seats in the church benches was sold. The annual fee from here was used to maintain the church. Therefore, many of the church chairs still show the names of some of the island's former churchgoers (including deceased shipowner AP Møller's grandparents).
